American founder of Haitian orphanage accused of sexually abusing 4 boys

DENVER — An American man who founded an orphanage in Haiti made a court appearance on Friday after being accused of forcing four boys who lived in the institution to engage in sexual acts more than a decade ago.

During a detention hearing in federal court, the prosecutor called 71-year-old Michael Geilenfeld a “dangerous, manipulative and cunning child sexual predator” and argued he should not be released on bond as his case proceeds, The Associated Press reported.

On Jan. 18, Geilenfeld was indicted in Florida on charges of child sexual abuse. He was arrested last weekend in Colorado.

More on the indictment and history of sex abuse allegations.
