CONWAY, S.C. – A white couple in Conway, South Carolina is reportedly under investigation for racial discrimination after they allegedly set a cross on fire in their yard last month, which faced the home of their Black neighbors.

An FBI spokesperson said civil rights investigators on Wednesday searched the residence of Worden Butler and Alexis Hartnett, the white couple who are accused of harassing their Black neighbors, reported The Associated Press.

The Black couple, who are both retired, recorded a video of the cross allegedly burned on Thanksgiving weekend and said they have been subjected to repeated threats by their neighbors.

The week after the incident, the two white neighbors were arrested on state charges of harassment, and later released on bond.
