A Texas mother who has two Black sons says her neighbor has been harassing her family, using racially-charged intimidation tactics, including hanging a noose in his yard in front of her home.
Kat Ducommun said her neighbor has been harassing her and her sons for months. She said she went to the Manvel City Council and shared her concerns with the mayor and city council but she feels her issues with the neighbor are not being taken seriously.
During a Manvel City Council meeting last week, Ducommun said the neighbor pointed to the rope on the tree and said “I have something for your little boy.” She said she reported the incidents to Manvel police but they didn’t immediately take action.
Ducommun said Manvel police told her they couldn’t do anything about the neighbor hanging the noose on his property because it was a form of him exercising his First Amendment rights.
Manvel Police Chief Keith Traylor later released a statement about the incident, saying his department was now investigating the racial threats and taking the allegations seriously.
