LSU guard Hailey Van Lith was thrust into the spotlight after calling out a Los Angeles Times column that described her teammates as “dirty debutantes,” and people who have since then directed racism at her teammates.
Van Lith, who is white, made the comments on Sunday, and also said the LSU women’s basketball team saw the Times’ commentary ahead of the highly-anticipated Sweet 16 game against UCLA on Saturday.
“We do have a lot of Black women on this team, and unfortunately, that bias does exist still today, and a lot of the people that are making those comments are being racist towards my teammates,” Van Lith said.
