Georgia deputy who fatally shot Leonard Cure had been fired for excessive force: report

The Georgia deputy who fatally shot a Black man on Oct. 16 who was exonerated and freed just a few years ago has a history of disciplinary action, and violent encounters while on duty, according to The Associated Press.

Last year, a driver who fled from the deputy was dragged from a car on Interstate 95 in Georgia. Body and dash camera video obtained by The Associated Press showed the driver being punched while he was lying on his back. The deputy did not face any disciplinary action, The Associated Press reported.

Personnel records also showed the deputy was fired from his job in August 2017 by a police department in Camden County after he reportedly threw a woman to the ground during a traffic stop. He was hired by The Camden County Sheriff’s Office nine months later.
