On Thursday, The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, a Black history museum, said the statue of General Robert E. Lee no longer exists, reported The Associated Press.

In 2021, the majority of the Charlottesville City Council voted in favor of donating the divisive statue to the Heritage Center, after it was that the statue be melted and repurposed into a public arts display that promotes inclusivity and racial justice.

More on the years-long fight over the statue and it’s demise.
