On Tuesday, the American Cancer Society Tuesday launched the largest-ever study on cancer affecting Black women to hopefully find new information that explains why they are more like to die from cancer than women who are not Black.

The American Cancer Society plans to enroll more than 100,000 Black women who have not been diagnosed with cancer. The study will follow them over the span of three decades, documenting their health and other details along the way. The American Cancer Society is targeting 20 states and the District of Columbia where there are high populations of Black woman. – areas where the majority of Black American women live.

For decades The American Cancer Society has spearheaded many long-term studies, including notable studies that have linked smoking with lung cancer.
