The Pentagon identified those soldiers killed in the drone strike as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia. All three were were U.S. Army Reserve soldiers were assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade in Fort Moore, Georgia.

The drone strike also left more than 40 troops wounded, most reportedly sustained lacerations, bruises, and brain injuries.

Officials, speaking with anonymity, said the deadly strike happened after U.S. forces possibly mistook an enemy drone for one of their own and allowed it to travel into their desert base in Jordan, The Associated Press reported.

Officials said that as the enemy drone, which was flying toward the base at a low altitude, a U.S. drone was also returning, according to a preliminary report.

On Sunday, President Joe Biden blamed the attack on Iran and vowed to respond with military action.
