2 Georgia cops to resign instead of being fired after violent arrest of Black man

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Two police officers in Georgia who were fired for their involvement in an arrest last year will reportedly now resign from their positions instead of facing termination.

The pair of Cobb County officers — Nicholas Malagon and Noah Maack — were fired after body camera footage of a violent arrest on Aug. 19, 2023 of Montavious Smith, a Black man, was later discovered.

WSB-TV Atlanta reported on Wednesday that the officers will formally resign from their posts instead of being terminated.
