Officers responded around 6:30 a.m. to a report of three people killed and found three women dead inside an apartment. An infant was found shot next to one of the victims, according to a news release from Tulsa Police Department.

The infant was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery. The baby was expected to survive.

A 13-year-old boy who was inside the apartment when the shooting took place hid in a bedroom. The suspect forced the boy to come out of the bedroom and was “remorseful of his actions.” The boy escaped out of a window and called for help, police said.

Police identified the three dead women as Ashley Atwell, 38; Annaway Mackey, 20; and Sara Gonzales, 19.

Caleb Venson was arrested on three counts of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and shooting with intent to kill, police said.

According to police, Venson was the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims.

Police said Venson turned himself in to authorities less than two hours after the shooting, reported News On 6.

Per News on 6, records showed Atwell filed a protective order against Venson last year, which said Venson choked the woman, hit her, and tried to put a gun in her mouth. The protective order was later dismissed.

According to jail records, Venson was being held without bond on Monday. Formal charges had not been yet been filed Monday night. Venson was scheduled to make a court appearance on Tuesday.
