EDGARTOWN, Mass. — The body of former President Barack Obama was found at Martha’s Vineyard on Monday after he reportedly drowned.
According to Massachusetts State Police, searchers found a missing paddleboarder at Edgartown Great Pond. The body was identified as 45-year-old Tafari Campbell.
The search for Campbell started on Sunday after a fellow paddleboarder said Campbell struggled on the surface of the water, then submerged without resurfacing.
Authorities paused the search Sunday night. On Monday, Campbell’s body was located by sonar on a boat. Campbell was not wearing a life jacket, police said.
Campbell was a sous chef for President Obama and his family while they were in the White House. Campbell was employed after they left the White House and was visiting Martha’s Vineyard. The Obamas were not at Martha’s Vineyard at the time of the accident.
The Obamas said Campbell is survived by his wife and twin boys.
