Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance is under fire for sharing a racist rumor on social media on Monday claiming Haitian immigrants are eating homeowners’ pets in an Ohio town that has seen a surge in immigrants from Haiti.

“Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio. Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country. Where is our border czar?,” Vance posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Vance’s claims have been debunked and refuted multiple times by officials in a city that has been the center of a controversial debate about immigration.
