PHILADELPHIA — If keeping a secret seems nearly impossible these days, voters may have to look no further than Philadelphia after an advertisement endorsing Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for Vice President hit the internet on Friday, possibly spoiling the biggest announcement Americans were anticipating next week.

The ad features Pennsylvanians, including Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker who can be heard emphatically endorsing Shapiro for Vice President. Shapiro is one of several possible VP hopefuls on presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ shortlist for the coveted position.

Pennsylvania is one of several important swing states that Democrats have been evaluating to help their chances of electing Harris in November.

Harris’ campaign has not responded to questions about the advertisement. Parker’s team, however, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the ad reflects Pennsylvanians’ support for Shapiro, and is not necessarily an an official announcement Shapiro will be on the Democratic ticket.

Vice President Harris has previously stated the announcement for Vice President will be released by Aug. 7.
