The first Black mayor of a small Alabama town is returning to work after he was locked out of town hall by white officials.
After a lawsuit was settled on Tuesday, Patrick Braxton will assume the as the mayor after he was elected, and subsequently locked out by white officials earlier this year. U.S. District Judge Kristi K. DuBose approved the agreement on Tuesday.
As part of the agreement, Newbern will also be required to hold municipal elections, which the town has not done since 1965
