WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris blasted Florida’s leaders over what she called “propaganda” as schools replace Black history lessons with revised curriculum mandated by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
On a trip to Florida to discuss conservatives’ latest efforts to limit or remove Black history in a state that has seen an uptick in backlash against content on racism and the LGBTQ community. Florida is one of the several Southern states that has made attempts to remove Black history from K-12 schools and colleges.
“How is it that anyone could suggest that in the midst of these atrocities that there was any benefit to being subjected to this level of dehumanization?” Harris asked while speaking at Ritz Theater and Museum in Jacksonville, reported the Associated Press.
Harris’ made the visit to Florida just two days after the Florida Board of Education approved a revised curriculum that meets the requirements of legislation signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The modified curriculum will include information that suggests enslaved Africans benefited from the labor they were forced to perform.
