MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE — Violent protests erupted in major cities throughout Mozambique on Friday as angry opposition voters rebuked the results of local elections held earlier this month, which many citizens claimed were rigged.
Authorities arrested 70 people, including 60 people in Nampula, Nacala, Quelimane, and in the capital Maputo, Reuters reported.
One civilian was reportedly killed during protests in Nacala, and one police officer was killed by mobs in Nampula.
