BALTIMORE — A video has gone viral that shows a Black man confronting Chick-fil-A staff in Maryland after he allegedly received a receipt with a racial slur.

The receipt in the viral video shows “m*nkeys” where the name of the customer would be at the top. The customer’s name is Marquise Vanzego.

In the video, Vanzego, approaches a Chick-Fil-A employee at the register and told the employee about the receipt. He asks if the employee who wrote the receipt was still available but was told the employee was not there are the moment.

Vanzego, 52, posted the video and an open letter about the ordeal on Facebook addressed to Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Truett Cathy. In the post, he explained in the post that he gave his name to the person he ordered from in the drive-thru at the restaurant in LaPlata on Friday, Aug. 23.

Shocked by the discovery, Vanzego returned to the Chick-Fil-A and spoke to a woman who said she is a manager.

On Facebook, Vanzego said that she the manager apologized to him and admitted the slur didn’t sound similar to his actual name.

Vanzego said he spoke with a manager over the phone who told him:

“I spoke with him, he’s 17-years-old and told me that he put down the name he thought he heard you say so I stand with him and will not terminate him.”
