SAN FRANCISCO — A Black woman visiting San Francisco told news station KTVU she received a receipt with a racial slur from a local restaurant on Monday.

Whitney Washington shared a receipt from a restaurant in the Mission District which showed the n-word in the upper right corner.

Washington told KTVU her daughter noticed the slur. She and her family started checking other customers’ receipts in the restaurant but only noticed their receipt had the n-word.

Washington said she returned her order and asked for a refund. She told KTVU when she spoke to an employee about it, “I pointed to the ‘here N-word,’ and I said ‘Do you know what this means?’ He didn’t say no, he said ‘I don’t know how that got there.'”

A manager for the restaurant told KTVU she became aware of the incident shortly after it happened and fired the employee.

More on the incident and response from the restaurant.
