In a surprise move no one saw coming, the Academy appears to be listening to someone.

It was announced today that two-time Oscar nominee Angela Bassett will receive a honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards. Bassett will be among three people receiving the honor, including Hollywood legend Mel Brooks and film editor Carol Littleton. Michelle Satter will also be given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,” Janet Yang, the academy’s president, said in a statement.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announcement today comes months after Angela Bassett lost the Best Supporting Actress category to Jamie Lee Curtis. The loss was perceived by many as a snub to Bassett.

The Governors Awards, an untelevised event, will be held in November.
