HOPE BAY, JAMAICA — A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the northeastern region of Jamaica on Monday, knocking out power and sending residents fleeing.
The epicenter of the quake was about 2 miles west-northwest of Hope Bay. The depth of the tremor was about 6 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Small tremors are very common on the island nation but strong earthquakes are rare.
No deaths, injuries or serious damage was immediately reported.
