Extreme floods, landslides in Kenya leave at least 181 dead

NAIROBI, Kenya — At least 181 people have been killed due to floods and mudslides in Kenya caused by torrential rain since March as hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee the disaster on Wednesday, government officials said.

Initially, 10 deaths were reported, but by Wednesday morning officials said that number had jumped to 179.

The historic rainfall has led to the destruction of homes, roads, critical infrastructure.

The record rainfall in Kenya followed the worst drought East Africa has experienced in decades.
