Two Black women who had aspirations to model, were found dead in their apartments in Downtown Los Angeles just days apart last week, raising fears that there may possibly be a serial killer on the loose — and Black women could be the targets.

Nichole “Nikki” Coats, 32, reportedly told friends she was going out on a date on Friday, Sept. 8. That was her last conversation with loved ones. Nicole stopped answering her calls and text throughout the weekend. On Sept. 10, Coats’ father, and aunt along with police, went to Coat’s luxury apartment for a welfare check, where they made the gut-wrenching discovery of Coats’ body, reported KTLA 5.

According to the family, Coats’ appeared to have been beaten and was unrecognizable.

Coats’ mother Sharon described her daughter as kind, loved by friends, her community and without enemies.

“I don’t know who she went out with or what transpired there,” Sharon said. “I have no idea but I’m going to find out. So if you’re out there, you’re going to get caught. You’re messing with the wrong person.”

Coats’ death is still under investigation, but has not ruled been ruled as a homicide.

Just two days after the reported death of Coats, 31-year-old Maleesa Mooney, a real estate agent and aspiring model, was also found dead in her Downtown Los Angeles Apartment near Bunker Hill on Tuesday evening, Sept. 12.

Mooney’s family said they became worried after she didn’t respond to calls or text messages for nearly a week. The family requested a welfare check. That’s when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were dispatched and discovered Mooney’s body inside her apartment.

Mooney’s death is still under investigation.

Mooney’s family stated they have no idea who would harm her, and they also stated Mooney was a kind and loving person.

Both families and friends of Nicole and Malessa are in mourning but fear there could be a possible serial killer on the loose in downtown Los Angeles. The public also fears of a possible predatory targeting in the area, so far targeting young black women.

Authorities are working to determine if the two incidents are related, but have not confirmed any connection thus far.
