CHICAGO — Police are investigating the death of the mother of former NFL player Sergio Brown, who is missing, police said.
The body of Myrtle Brown, 70, was found behind her home in the Maywood suburbs near Chicago on Sept. 16. Her son has also been missing, according to the Maywood Police Department.
Police said Myrtle’s body was found near a creek about 100 yards behind her Maywood home.
Sergio played for Notre Dame before signing with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played seven seasons in the NFL before being signed with his last team the Buffalo Bills in 2016.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Myrtle’s autopsy found that she suffered several injuries from an assault, and her death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation to Myrtle’s death is still ongoing and no possible suspects have been identified.
The Maywood Police Department also asked anyone with information on Sergio’s whereabouts to contact the police department.
