Tina Turner, the legendary, glass ceiling-shattering icon who became a transformative figure in music and culture, passed away Wednesday at the age of 83.
“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock & Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland,” her family said in a statement.

In the last decade of her life, Turner dealt with several health issues, including intestinal cancer, for which she underwent a kidney transplant donated by her husband, Erwin Bach, in 2017.
