Police are reportedly investigating a suspected hate crime after a man yelled a racial slur at a Black cyclist and hit him with his truck in Palo Alto.
Police said the incident happened Sept. 29 around 5:30 p.m. in the downtown area when the cyclist briefly entered the street while trying to avoid contact with a car being parking. The cyclist told them after his bike entered the street, a White man driving a pick-up truck got upset and the situation escalated, reported KNTV.
The police said the victim told them the truck drove over his bike and left the scene after the incident.
The victim reportedly suffered minor injuries to his legs.
Police are searching for the suspect who was described as a man with blonde hair in his 30s, wearing a construction vest, who was driving a silver Toyota pick-up truck.
