NAIROBI, Kenya — A man who allegedly confessed to killing 42 woman after he was arrested last month, including his wife, has escaped from jail.

On Tuesday, local officials said 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, along with 12 Eritrean nationals, escaped from custody after cutting mesh wire and scaling a wall. The Eritreans were being held in custody for illegal immigration.

Khalusha has been detained since allegedly telling police investigators he killed 42 women, including his wife, after multiple dismembered bodies and body parts wrapped in plastic were discovered in the Kware region of Nairobi.

Several officers have been accused of helping with the jail escape. At least eight officers, including commanders, who were on duty during the jail break have been received disciplinary action.
