A new report released last week indicates the legacy of slavery is still present in U.S. politics after the report revealed dozens of high-profile politicians are descendents of slaveholders.

The report, which was published by Reuters on June 27, found that about dozens of congressmen, senators, justices and living presidents are direct descendants of ancestors who owned slaves. The list includes former president Barack Obama (mother’s side), Republicans Senators Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, as well as Democrats such as Elizabeth Warren and current president Joe Biden.

Former president Donald Trump was missing from the list; his ancestors arrived in the U.S. after slavery was abolished.
