CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly 50 people were arrested or issued a citation after a melee broke out at a fireworks show in the Uptown area on July 4.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the fireworks show was scheduled to be held at Truist Field in Romare Bearden Park when it was disrupted by a large group of people who started fighting, which sent crowds scrambling for safety.
Authorities said 47 people were either arrested or cited in connection with the event. Among those arrested or cited were 17 juveniles between 13 and 17 years of age.
Police said they also cited the parent or guardian of 15 of the juveniles involved in the disruption. The caretakers were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
No one was hurt during the widespread brawl, but two CMPD officers suffered minor injuries.
