LOS ANGELES — The Black man who was seen on video being punched by a LAPD officer last month will not face charges, his attorney told reporters on Monday.

Alexander Mitchell’s vehicle was illegally parked on a residential street and facing the wrong direction when he was approached by two officers.

The officers appeared to be handcuffing Mitchell, 30, who was seen on video with his hands behind his back when he was punched in the face by one of the LAPD officers in the Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles on July 28.

Mitchell appeared in court for an arraignment on Monday.

The video sparked outrage and calls for accountability, and reform within the Los Angeles Police Department.

The officer who punched Mitchell was taken off field duty pending the investigation.

Mitchell’s attorney Brad Gage filed a claim against the LAPD on Friday.
