On Monday, the United Nations Security Council approved the deployment of a multinational security force to Haiti, which would be led by Kenya to help stabilize the Caribbean nation amid violence attributed to gangs.

The United States has been one of the strongest proponents of the effort to send troops into Haiti with the support of foreign partners.

Thirteen members of the United Nations Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, excluding Russia and China.

The mission would be the first time in history security forces were led by predominantly Black countries.
