FORT MEYERS, Fla. — One of former President Donald Trump’s most fervent supporters, who is a Black man, has filed a federal lawsuit after he was allegedly called “a slave” by a white supervisor for a conservative group he was canvassing neighborhoods for in Fort Meyers.

Carl Baxter, who is also president of the Republican Club of North and East Fort Myers, had been canvassing Florida neighborhoods sharing his party’s agenda for about 12 days when he complained he was being underpaid. Baxter alleges the supervisor told him he should be grateful to be paid at all.

Baxter is suing Americans for Prosperity for discrimination. AFP is a conservative nonprofit established by the politically-influential billionaires Charles and David Koch, commonly referred to as the Koch brothers.
