JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Border authorities in South Africa turned away dozens of buses transporting more than 400 hundred children from Zimbabwe who were unaccompanied by their parents.

According to the South African Border Management Agency, the 443 children were under the age of 8 and being trafficked, however an organization in South Africa that represents foreign nationals said the children were likely sent to visit their parents for the holidays, The Associated Press reported.

It’s estimated more than 1 million Zimbabweans currently call South Africa, many illegally, due to the economic crisis in their neighboring home country.
