New Jersey mayor forces kids to leave basketball tournament over “Equality” shirts

A basketball team full of children in a New Jersey town were forced to withdraw from a tournament because the mayor reportedly didn’t want them to continue to wear t-shirts that displayed the word “equality.” Several children on the team had been wearing the shirts for weeks promoting social justice. When the mayor got wind of it, he issued a directive to school sports officials to have the players remove the shirts or they would not be able to participate. When faced with the ultimatum, the team decided not to play in the tournament and left. Parents, like many of the city’s residents, were upset with the mayor for his alleged role in intervening in the tournament.
