New Jersey mayor forces kids to leave basketball tournament over “Equality” shirts

A basketball team full of children in a New Jersey town were forced to withdraw from a tournament because the mayor reportedly didn’t want them to continue to wear t-shirts that displayed the word “equality.”

Several children on the team had been wearing the shirts for weeks promoting social justice. When the mayor got wind of it, he issued a directive to school sports officials to have the players remove the shirts or they would not be able to participate. When faced with the ultimatum, the team decided not to play in the tournament and left.

Parents, like many of the city’s residents, were upset with the mayor for his alleged role in intervening in the tournament. He is also currently in hot water over accusations of racism and refuses to resign.

The mayor has denied he was part of the decision, blaming the situation on the coach who happens to be the state’s former governor.

More about the mayor with too much time on his hands can be found here.

Opinion: One would think the mayor has more important affairs to attend to than a harmless basketball tournament for children but this mayor should have been ousted a long time ago. He has been caught on camera and audio recordings on multiple occasions making racist and sexist remarks. He has been in office since 2001; where are the reasonable term limits? He is, unsurprisingly, also a Trumpist. Good for the boys — and coach — for acting like mature adults by standing up for beliefs that promote inclusivity — the exact opposite of what this mayor and his base are really about.
