PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Dozens of people were injured after police in Haiti threw tear gas at hundreds of peaceful protesters on Monday who were urging law enforcement to help stop gang violence that has spread into their neighborhoods.

Protesters took to the streets and burned tires demanding police intervene in the growing violence which has been rampant since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021.

Gangs are believed to currently control about 80% of Port-au-Prince.
