From California to New York City, the entire nation celebrated the birth of hip-hop and its legacy in music and culture. August 11, 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of the genre, born out of the Bronx, New York. Last month, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced a proclamation acknowledging Aug. 11, 2023 as Hip-hop Celebration Day.

Numerous events were held, drawing hip-hop legends such as Run DMC, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy and more. See photos from some of the concerts below.
