NEW YORK CITY — New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on federal charges alleging the former police captain accepted bribes and illegal campaign contributions from Turkish officials.
Adams and his aides were under federal investigation for more than a year for unknown reasons, with Adams continuously claiming his innocence and telling the public he was cooperating with investigators.
As news spread about Adams’, indictment spread Wednesday night, his tone became more defiant, alleging he was being targeted and the allegations against him and his staff were politically motivated.
During a news conference on Thursday, Adams responded to the allegations, which he implied were racially motivated. A crowd of protestors pushed back on Adams’ claims of racial bias as the mayor took the podium.
Adams is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday.
