House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has stoked the ire of conservatives after she suggested during an interview that 30% of Republicans will never support a Democratic candidate because they believe in sexist, racist and homophobic ideology.

Pelosi was asked on Saturday at the Texas Tribune Festival what was contributing to the 2024 presidential race being so tight when she made the comments about the GOP’s voting base.

“There are people who will never be, shall we say, inclined to support Democrats because they just have a different orientation toward women, people of color, LGBTQ, you know. They just are not ever going to be there,” Pelosi said.

“So, say that’s about like 30% or something like that of the Republicans. And then you have very, very rich people who do not really want to pay taxes or have regulations of clean water, clean air, any of that. So you have to deal with that. It’s not as many rich people, but it’s a lot of money that goes into a campaign. ”

Conservatives have compared Pelosi’s comments on Saturday to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s controversial “basket of deplorables” remarks about MAGA supporters.
