Sheriff’s officials released new video showing former Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson booked into jail shortly after he turned himself in following the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey.
In the full video, Grayson can be heard talking with several deputies with the Sangamon County and Menyard County Sheriff’s offices.
During one of multiple conversation heard in the video, after commenting on how few inmates were at the jail, Grayson tells deputies: “Well, this whole SAFE-T Act bullsh*t — that’s why hopefully I’ll be out tomorrow.”
In the video, before Sangamon County sheriff’s deputies left Grayson at the jail, one of them can be heard telling Grayson: “Alright, Sean these guys will take care of you.”
Two deputies with Menyard County can be later heard in the video telling Grayson: “You are free to ask if you need something, we’ll get you through it.”
Grayson has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct. He has plead not guilty.
Massey was killed July 6 after she called 911 to report a possible prowler at her home in Springfield.
Since the release of information showing the history of disciplinary action taken against Grayson during his jobs in law enforcement, community leaders and elected officials, including Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, have called for Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell to resign.
On Friday, Campbell announced his resignation as sheriff.
