SUDAN — The ongoing war in Sudan has claimed the lives of up to 9,000 people since it began in April, displaced millions of Sudanese, and continues to ravage the impoverished nation with no end in sight.
Per The Associated Press, United Nations Undersecretary-General Martin Griffiths said the bloodshed is not the only atrocity, as there have also been “horrific reports of rape and sexual violence” which continue six months after the war began.
The U.N. migration agency says more than 4.5 million people have been displaced by the violence in Sudan. More than 1.2 million Sudanese are now refugees in neighboring countries.
United Nations officials say 25 million Sudanese are in desperate need of humanitarian aid.
Adding to the nation’s woes, a cholera outbreak was reported in Khartoum and the provinces of Kordofan and Qadarif. There have been reportedly about 1,000 suspects cases.
