Judge: Damages to Black Lives Matter mural in Santa Cruz worth $19K

The two men accused of vandalizing a Black Lives Matter mural last year will be required to pay more than $19,000 for its restoration if the pair are found guilty, according to a judge. A Santa Cruz County Superior Court judge made the ruling today after the decision, which was expected last month, was delayed. Brandon Bochat, 21, and Hagan Warner, 20, were charged with felony vandalism and hate crime for defacing the mural located near 800 Center Street in Santa Cruz. The judge's determination of the cost was reportedly based on the work to restore the project, materials, paint, and city permits. The restitution amount could change.
