WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump since his second run for the oval office, has won the commander-in-chief’s endorsement for Florida’s next governor.
Donalds, a conservative who has frequently defended racism allegations aimed at Trump and MAGA Republicans on the 2024 presidential campaign trail, would replace outgoing Gov. Ron DeSantis who is reaching his term limits in 2026.
After weeks of rumors, Donalds who officially announced his run for Florida governor on Tuesday, has been criticized for his interpretations of racism and segregation, including a viral debate about Jim Crow segregation with Rev. Al Sharpton.
Donalds is the second Black politician whose gubernatorial bid was supported by Trump after North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson who lost his election after he was accused of visiting online sex forums.
