Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault in connection with the death of Ajike “A.J.” Owens, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Authories said the incident started when Lorincz became angry that Owens’ children were playing in a field next to an apartment complex near her home in Ocala. The woman threw a skate at Owens’ 9-year-old son, which hit the boy on his foot.

The boy and his 12-year-old brother went to the woman’s door and she swung an umbrella at them, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The boys told their mother Owens what happened, and Owens went to Lorincz’s home and knocked on the neighbors door multiple times demanding Lorincz come out of the house. Lorincz then fired one shot through the door, which fatally struck Owens in her upper chest.

She died with her 9-year-old son next to her.

Outrage over the delay in arresting Lorincz sparked protests and demands for justice for the alleged victim.
