MANASSAS, VA — A woman who allegedly killed her husband last fall in Virginia spoke with local news outlets this week saying she did it in self-defense.
Latoya Crabbe, 35, is accused of fatally shooting her estranged husband Curtis Crabbe last year in the bedroom of their home in Manassas. She was jailed Oct. 21, 2024 in connection with the killing.
Latoya was indicted by a grand jury on second-degree murder charge on Jan. 6
According to NBC 4 Washington, Crabbe was advised by her attorney to not discuss specifics about the case.
She told FOX 5 in Virginia she only killed her estranged husband out of self-defense.
Latoya’s defense attorney told NBC 4 that Curtis sent threatening text messages to Latoya days before she shot him. Her attorney said Curtis cornered Latoya holding a knife when she shot him.
Latoya spent four months in jail, initially held in solitary confinement. Bond requests for the mother of three children were rejected twice before she was released on bond with an ankle monitor, and reunited with her family.
Latoya is due back in court on Thursday. Prosecutors plan to drop the current murder charges and seek first-degree murder charges after they bring new evidence to a grand jury next month. Prosecutors said they discovered Ring camera videos from the couple’s home around the time of the shooting had been erased, NBC 4 reported.
Latoya said the camera was in the living room, not the bedroom, and only recorded when activated by motion.
Latoya told NBC 4 she is trying to spend as much time as possible with her children because she doesn’t know what will happen.
“I try to hope for the best and prepare for the worst case scenario.”
