Viral video of violent arrest involving Black man, deputies in Florida draws outrage

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Recently-released video of a violent traffic stop involving law enforcement and deputies in northeast Florida has drawn outrage.

The incident, which happened on Friday, was caught on camera by a bystander, which shows a Black man with his hands behind his back and bloody face as he sat outside of a vehicle while surrounded by deputies with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Le’Keian Woods into custody on Friday.

According to online records, Woods was being held in custody on Sunday on several charges, including armed possession of a controlled substance, resisting an officer with violence and violation of probation.

A mugshot released of Woods following his arrest showed the man appeared to have injuries on his face, including two swollen black eyes and a bloodied lip.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it is conducting an administrative review of the encounter on Friday involving Woods and deputies to determine if any policies were violated, per the The Associated Press.

Jacksonville is the city where three Black people were gunned down in a racist attack at a Dollar General store in a predominantly-Black neighborhood more than a month ago.
