Video has resurfaced this week calling into question a hearing in 2020 over a Nigerian officials’ alleged misuse of funding for an African organization.
The official was being questioned by the House of Representatives about 536 million Naira (USD $1.25 million) that he was accused of funneling instead of for the organization that was intended to receive the funds.
The man can be seen suddenly laying his head down — with his eyes open — as he becomes unresponsive. People in attendance, including other officials, rushed to the man’s “aid” to seemingly tend to him. One official is seen prying the man’s mouth open with his bare hands.
Many have accused the man of faking the fainting spell.
He was escorted out of the hearing and transported to a medical facility by ambulance.
A spokesperson for the official who “fainted” released a statement after the public hearing claiming the man attended the hearings against the advice of his doctor who diagnosed him with an ailment. He wanted to attend because he said he would look guilty if he didn’t.
The official was later found guilty.
