Students have expressed outrage after the release of a video of a White student allegedly urinating on the belongings of a Black student at a top university in South Africa.

The incident was reported earlier this week at Stellenbosch University.

In a video clip shared on social media, a White student is seen urinating on the Black student’s laptop, text books and other belongings. The Black student walks into his room during the incident and asks what the White student was doing, to which he replied “quiet.”

The incident has been called racist at a university with a history of racially-insensitive behavior from students. One of those incidents, for example, occurred in 2014 when two White male students were suspended for dressing up in Black face to reportedly depict tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. A similar incident involving two White female students occurred just two years later.

The university released a statement condemning the most recent incident and suspended the student.

Students have engaged in protests throughout the campus and demanded the White student be expelled. A petition on Change.org has garnered more than 50,000 signatures calling for the student’s expulsion.
