
A police officer in New York was caught on camera punching a woman during a tense situation as officers were reportedly trying to arrest a man as they were being crowded.
The incident happened on Tuesday as police were trying to arrest a man for attempted murder in Harlem, reported NBC4 New York.
The video shows a detective, identified as Kendo Kinsey, punch a woman, identified as 19-year-old Tamani Crum, in the head as she rushes towards the officers during the arrest. In the video, Crum can be seen flying back upon impact and hitting her head on the sidewalk.
Crum was among three people arrested by the NYPD. She was initially facing multiple charges, but today, the NYPD released a statement saying she was charged with obstruction.
The NYPD released body camera footage of the incident after the community expressed outrage.
Police said Crum was transported to a hospital at her own request.
