HENDERSON, NV — Newly-released police bodycam video shows the moments leading up to a Henderson Police sergeant striking a Black woman who fell to the ground after he claimed he believed the woman was going to spit on him.
Per local news station KLAS, Sgt. Scott Alward responded to a call on Oct. 26, 2024 about an alleged combative woman after her sister called police for help and said she battered her, Alward’s report stated.
Bodycam video obtained by KLAS showed a tense encounter between the officer and the woman who appeared to be walking away when she faced toward Alward while arguing with him. Moments later, the woman is seen stumbling backwards to the ground on her back.
The video did not show the woman attempting to spit at the officer.
