Trump calls Black candidate in N.C. governor’s race ‘Martin Luther King on steroids’

RALEIGH, N.C. — During a rally Saturday in Greensboro, former President Donald Trump endorsed North Carolina Mark Robinson for governor, and stopped short of comparing the Black lieutenant Governor of to Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr.

During the event, Trump referred to Robinson as “Martin Luther King on steroids.”

Trump continued his comments, adding “I think you’re better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two.”

Trump’s endorsement of Robinson comes months after the former president publicly stated he would support the gubernatorial hopeful.
